Rockport Eye Care

If you use any sort of vision correcting devices, such as eyeglasses or contacts, it is crucial to the health of your eyes and your own personal safety that your prescription is correct. At our Rockport eye care clinic, Rockport Eye Associates, we make sure that we provide you with the most accurate prescription possible. In order to keep up with your prescription, it is necessary that you visit with our Rockport eye care specialist regularly. In fact, we are not legally able to refill your contact lens order if you have not had an eye exam recently; this stresses how important having a correct prescription is. Although required by law, these examinations are not by any means daunting or too time-consuming.

Regular routine eye exams are important for everyone to get. However, people who have diabetes need to get examined much more frequently than those who don’t have it. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness for people under 65 years old in the United States. People who have diabetes need to get a special type of eye exam called diabetic retinal eye exams. If you have diabetes, you need to go to an eye doctor who is experienced in working with patients who have it. Our Rockport Optometrist at Rockport Eye Associates, Dr. Soto has over 10 years of experience with evaluating and treating patients with diabetic eye disorders.

If you have diabetes your eye doctors like our Rockport Optometrist at Rockport Eye Associates will do a special diabetic screening test called a diabetic retinal eye exam in order to check for diabetic retinopathy. Forty to forty five percent of Americans who have diabetes are diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is serious because it causes loss of vision and possible blindness. Diabetic retinopathy can cause vision loss in 2 ways. Fragile abnormal blood vessels can develop and leak blood in the middle of the eye, blurring vision, or fluid can leak into the center of the area of the eye where sharp, straight-ahead vision occurs (the macula). The fluid causes the macula to swell, which causes blurry vision. This condition is called macular edema.

When you have diabetes you need to go to an eye doctor who has specialized training in diabetic eye care, like our experienced Rockport Optometrist at Rockport Eye Associates. Because diabetic eye conditions are so serious, you need to go to the best. Dr. Soto has the specialized training and experience to help you so you know you’re in good hands when you come to our office. Our friendly staff is looking forward to helping you.
